Johnstone shares the original soloist line amongst two solo cellists who alternately take the melodic importance of the singing line. The eight cello version is almost as rich as the original orchestral version. The piece is in D major and is approximately five minutes long. “Méditation” is a symphonic intermezzo from the opera Thaïs (1894) by French composer Jules Massenet, written for solo violin and orchestra.
